Anyone up for a artistic battle next week?

In short, someone chooses a keyword, and everyone has a week to do a piece based on said word.

I wouldn't be able to spend all week on it because I have to HAVE TO get work done on this short film, but I'm sure I would enter. Sounds fun!

We could start it this week and advertise the competition all over facebook and such...

It could be a good way to generate traffic! Very Happy

Yeah, sure! That sounds really fun!
What kind of work are we talking about though, or is it open for us to use any medium we choose?
What'll the first subject be?

my plan was that I would give a prompt, and you could do anythign you wanted... be it a sketch, model, live action short.......

something like "one man duel" or "small soldier with a too large gun"... something simple that everyone could create something different from

Shouldn't we all have to agree on the first prompt? I think that would be more fair... Very Happy

as admin of the site i'm choosing the first prompt, fairness doesn't exsist in real life

don't worry, i'm not gonna choose something just to be easy on myself

Ah, so you're going to play that card Razz laammmeee haha...
...even though it was Jason's thread O.o...

Anyway...in suit of other forums, I feel like the person that chooses the topic shouldn't be allowed to compete. That way the same person isn't choosing the topic week after week...
Fairness doesn't exist in real life, but it does in competitions that have rules.

everyone is allowed to compete

the winner is chosen based on votes.... so the only reason a person would be contintally choosing the topic would be if everyone kept voting for them to win

and yes, this is jasons thread, but I was already planning on doing something like this... I was just going to wait until we had more people... but I decided it might get people more active and draw in some new members

But if they choose the topic, they have an unfair advantage...

I'm not trying to be difficult here...I'm trying to make sure it's a fair competition O.o...

if someone keeps winning, or is intentionally choosing topics that makes it easy on them... then I will consider changing the rules. for now I am going to assume people are going to play fair and choose prompts that would be a challenge for them.

anyways, I know what prompt 1 is going to be. and its going to be a real doozie for me.

since I just figured out a flaw in our plan, and realized we are going to need a buffer week for voting between battles... you guys can all decide on prompt number 2... Prompt #3 will be chosen by the winner of #1

that way we can keep this rolling without wasting time waiting for people to vote

We could end the contest on Friday, have the weekend for voting, and have the new prompt on Monday? Seems a bit simpler to keep track of...

Sure, Matt can pick whatever for the first prompt. I'm okay with the idea for the second prompt.

Here's a thought.
Make everyone name a random subject, and the first three combined will be the second subject.
It's a trick I sometimes do with little kids when they want me to sketch something. My little cousin asked for a sunflower-dog-doctor so this happened: http://orlious.deviantart.com/#/d2uuats

It's just an idea.

First prompt is up

and I would rather the prompts be something people could make a scene out of, rather than just random words

this forum is mainly geared toward learning and practice for doing things in an artistic industry job. the prompts need to be closer to something you would be given as a professional, not something you would be given by children

Looking at the industry, though, you'll be given more specific prompts...like Wall-E for instance was probably something along the lines of "A friendly trash compactor robot." UP was "a grouchy old man" or "a colorful house" or "a jungle" or "a fat Asian boyscout." Clients are generally somewhat specific O.o...You aren't going to get a prompt like "behold the arrival of the non-threatening invaders" in industry...although I do think it's a fun prompt... Smile

I think you all are confusing a prompt and a topic

if you get 3 words (Darth Vader, Basketball, Soda) ... every person is going to draw some version of Darth Vader, a Soda Can, and a basketball.... the only creativity going into it is figuring out how to mix those.. .that would be a topic, you have a set object that needs to be drawn, you only get to figure out what it is doing.

a prompt on the other hand leaves most things open to interpenetration... a prompt could have 50 people read it and think of different things, one that COULD generate the darth vade ctopic could be "sci-fi villian does mundane task incorrectly"

you could end up with darth vader drinking soda from a basketball... you could end up with an alien firefighter who fights fire with fire

example being the first prompt "Behold the Arrival of the nonthreatening invaders" ... this could range anywhere from cute kittens invading a birdbath... to an army of giant troll creatures wielding what appear to be sock puppets, and anything in between... the only things that are specified are the fact that something is invading, and it appears to be non-threatening
